How to Choose the Right Gas Struts

Step 1: Measure the Lid Length Begin by measuring the distance from the hinge point to the edge of the lid. A good rule of thumb is that the extended length of the gas strut should be approximately 50% of the lid's length.

Step 2: Weigh the Lid Detach the lid from its hinges and weigh it using a scale.

Step 3: Calculate the Required Pressure For example, if the lid weighs 10 kg, convert that to Newtons (1 KG = 10N), resulting in 100N. If using two struts, simply divide the total pressure by two to determine the load for each strut.

Installing Gas Struts

1. Position the lid as desired. Mark a point either one-third or halfway from the hinge to the opposite side of the lid to establish the upper mounting point.
2. The lower mounting point is typically below the upper one.
3. Once the upper and lower brackets are secured, proceed to install the gas struts. If you find the resistance too strong for easy closure or opening, adjust the mounting point on the lid closer to the hinges. Conversely, if it feels too weak, shift the mounting point away from the hinge direction.
