Installation Instructions

1. Understanding Compression: It's important to note that all gas props cannot be compressed by hand. Therefore, if you find you cannot close them using hand or arm pressure, rest assured it does not indicate a defect; significant pressure is necessary to compress these props.

2. Installing in the Correct Position: Make sure to install all gas props when they are in the open or extended position. Attempting to compress and install them while in a compressed state is not advisable. Ensure your door remains fully open to mount the gas props.

3. Safety Precautions: It is highly recommended to have another person assist you, especially for heavier doors. They should hold the door in the extended position while you remove the old gas prop. Avoid using objects like broomsticks to prop the door open, as this may lead to potential falls and cause serious injury or vehicle damage.

4. Removing the Old Gas Prop: To safely detach the old gas prop, use a small screwdriver to lift the retaining band gently, allowing you to pull the gas prop end away from the mount. You do not need to detach the retaining band entirely; just lift it enough to remove the prop.

5. Installing the New Gas Prop: When placing the new gas prop, ensure the wider black section is on the top, while the silver shaft remains at the bottom when the door is in the closed position. This orientation keeps the oil inside the body to lubricate the seal, preventing cracking and pressure loss. Once aligned, press the nylon head of each shock onto the 10mm ball mount without requiring band lifting.

Important Measurement Guidelines

Before placing an order, verify lengths and pressure specifications. These struts do not fit all canopy and cover models. Measure from the center of one ball mount to the center of the opposite ball mount, not from end to end. A tape measure is advisable for accuracy; measure from the center of the gas prop head rather than the plastic end to ensure precision. Most setups account for a size variation of about 1-5%.

Each strut has a compressed length of 9.4 inches and an extended length of 15.7 inches, with a pressure rating of 28 lbs. In total, these provide 56 lbs of pressure support. However, keep in mind that this does not equate to lifting a 56 lb object.
